About Fair Format

The newly developed "Fair Format" is a budget casual format designed to promote creative deck-building and interactive gameplay without breaking the bank. It also allows for deck concepts you would rarely see in a competitive environment saturated with infinite combos and storm. All in all, the playing field is leveled, and all that you have are your deck-building skills and a desire to draw cards.

The following are non-negotiable criteria you must consider when building your deck:

1.) The total monetary value of your deck cannot exceed $50.00, not including basic lands. This means you must pay attention to the market flux, as it is prone to sharp spikes in either direction. Use TCG mid-market values as your reference. If a card has a printed version that is cheaper than the rest, you may use that price point even if the version you have is more expensive (this includes foils).

2.) Any card that has the ability to allow ANOTHER card other than a basic land card to enter the battlefield from a zone other than exile is banned. For example, cards such as Rampant Growth, which would allow a player to search his her library for a BASIC land and put into play, or Flickerwisp, which would allow another card to enter the battlefield from exile, are allowed. However, cards such as Crop Rotation or Rise from the Grave are banned. Cards such as Dregscape Zombie are allowed, because they cause themselves to be put into play, rather than another card.

3.) Any card with the "Storm" ability is banned. Any card whose abilities include copying it for every spell cast in a single turn is banned.

4.) If a deck has the ability to initiate a sequence of plays that allow for infinite mana, life, triggers, turns, etc., a mediator will confirm it and the player will be disqualified. This means you must be very careful not to include anything that lends even the slightest possibility of going infinite on it's own. If a source from your opponent would cause you to go infinite, that is okay.

Generally best for 1v1 (due to the smaller scope of gameplay).
Matches are best two out of three.

End of Season Triathlon

It is time! There shall be one final tournament- one to rule all tournaments! I have put up a poll so everyone can vote on which formats to use. But first, let us all agree upon a date on which everyone can be present. Reply to this post with your availability. Thanks, everyone!

10/11/2014- Switch Play

It was a swift night of confusion and frustration as the players scrambled each round to alter their decks 15 cards at a time. In the end, mrmrfrodo sealed the tournament with his Affinity variant.

09/06/2014 - Anything Goes Vintage

It was a bloodbath as eight warriors battled valiantly in a Free Form Vintage format, where anything goes. Including Flash-Hulk. Yeah. That sucked. LordofScryb swept the competition away, leaving the rest to play real games.

However, there were some very creative and effective ideas and combos exhibited during the tournament. Like Channel into an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn.

08/30/2014 - Emperor Variant

Due to two no-shows, we decided to forego the initial "Free Form" format and play a friendly game of Emperor. Well, really we just watched Tatoe play Emperor by himself until he achieved egg-gasm.

He was able to Silence his opponents in the final match to prevent them from responding to his multiple Second Sunrises. After all, it's no fun playing with yourself when your buddies are able to do anything about it.

8/8/2014 Team Two Headed Giant

Well, that was horrible. It was a night of missed triggers and unpleasant surprises. Dreamlander and LordofScryb were teamed up and completely ineffective all night. Others faired ok but it was the all-too-perfect power couple Mrmrfrodo and Serenity who pulled away with the win; after which Mrmrfrodo sealed it. Best play of the night:

Standard Two-Headed Giant Tandem Guilds

The evening was interesting. LordofScryb and MrMrFrodo did not play as they were too late to start. Dreamlander groped for land all night leaving him and Autumn Willow zero for six. In the end it was the team of Mjolnir and Serenity with a Boros wall of hate that won the preliminary. In the final, the two faced eachother and Serenity emerged the winner. This is a pivitol tournament for placement.

7/19/2014 Conspiracy Draft Tournament.

It was a nice change of pace to switch it up and engage in a draft. I think we decided that--for better or worse--conspiracy was actually a lot of fun.

The game dynamics were very different than they normally are. There were many surprising developments and interesting maneuvers on the field. In the finals were Erebos.Hades and Autumn Willow. Erebos.Hades outlasted Autumn Willow in a grueling match that lasted for what seemed like aeons.
